Krome used the existing high performance chiller and combined it with new dry coolers to replace the water tower for aerothermal heating. A new heat pump was also installed to produce chilled water and preheat domestic hot water. A recuperator was also used in the indoor pool to improve air quality and energy performance. The project was designed to reduce the carbon footprint of the building.

Chemistry pavilions D1 and D2 primarily house laboratories, offices and miscellaneous rooms. The goal of the project was to implement heat recovery in the exhaust of the laboratory fume hoods by replacing approximately 60 extractors with a new common network of only a few variable speed exhaust fans.
