Two very innovative projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the buildings’ HVAC systems. The buildings are adjacent and similar, 325 and 220 units each. The hot water equipment needed to be replaced and there were also major issues with humidity in the indoor pools and building depressurization during the winter. Krome installed heat pumps to recover outdoor heat to heat domestic hot water. Large storage tanks were installed. Dehumidifiers were also installed at the pool, which now contributes to heating the pool. KROME installed central air units with a thermal wheel to increase the building’s fresh air supply and recover heat from the exhaust.

This 170,000 sq. ft. heritage building in downtown Montreal is occupied by office space for lease. The original plan was to replace the steam boilers, but Krome chose instead to replace the aging chillers with new high efficiency heat pumps to recover the building’s internal heat.
