Chemistry pavilions D1 and D2 primarily house laboratories, offices and miscellaneous rooms. The goal of the project was to implement heat recovery in the exhaust of the laboratory fume hoods by replacing approximately 60 extractors with a new common network of only a few variable speed exhaust fans. Replacing the fans reduced energy consumption and maintenance. A new, more efficient and larger capacity recovery chiller replaced the existing chiller that was at the end of its life. Energy recovery from the exhaust air from the fume hoods lowered the balance point of the building. A new energy link between the heating and recovery systems in Pavilions D1 and D2 was also installed. The installation of the new systems was accomplished while keeping all systems operational with minimal downtime. This project was completed by the FNX-Enerpro team, now under the Krome banner.
